The Journey to the Unknown

Life was so boring before that tragedy happened in my life. Before that happened, I was at university waiting for my father to call me. I was bored in our class in mythology because who cares about those gods and goddesses. They are just a figment of the imagination of our ancestors. Our teacher noticed me not paying attention to his lectures and called upon my attention. He asked me who is the Roman God of communication and travel. I didn’t answer the question and just complained about why do we still give them importance and study about them. My teacher was furious about my answer and he let me leaves the class. He was shocked why I was joyful and I leave the room happily.
When I leave the school premises, it was about time my father called. He told me to prepare my bags for we will go to Rome tomorrow and told me I will going to love it there. I was so excited because I can leave this boring place and I can have new scenery to see. I put a lot of clothes and my favorite food in my bag. I almost forgot the extension of my arm, my phone. I can’t live without it and the power bank just in case there will be no charging outlet there. And the day has come for my great escape from this dull place and up we go to the Eternal City.
How anticlimactic. When we arrived in Rome, I thought my father and I will tour around the city but sadly, I forgot my father is an archeologist. He asked me to go to him so that he will have a helper in finding something. We bought first supplies for one week and a tent to make a camp for our digging site. I thought this would be my great escape from California but here, it was much boring and also tiring. We went to the outskirts of Tivoli, Rome and make a camp near the lake. We build a camp near the lake so that it would be easy for us to get fresh water and a good source of extra meals every day. After setting up the camp, my father arranged some markings and plans where to dig. I hate sitting around so I began to help my father doing some archeology kinds of stuff. Digging here, digging there, and digging everywhere in the outskirts of Tivoli, Rome to find a lost treasure of the Roman Gods. In our digging site, it was just an ordinary place where trees are growing in bundles and a lake nearby. My father always wears his digging attire, a brown fedora hat, a brown lab coat, and a lightning bolt pendant. I am quite curious about his pendant. I’ve never seen it before though so I asked where he got it from and he said from my grandfather. He gave it to him before he died so I think that pendant is quite sentimental to our family. My father is now in the middle ’50s now but he still acts like he was in his early 30’s. He always scolded me for not wearing the same attire though but I insist I would wear my orange polo shirt, pants and a pair of sneakers. Yes, it was kind of weary though but I am with my father to help him because it is my responsibility as a son. I am always here supporting my father in everything he does because I don’t want to lose another loved one anymore.
Way back three years, my mother and father got divorced because my father caught her cheating with another man. She said that she was not happy anymore about their relationship since my father always spends his time in his archeology works. They decided to have a formal separation and they let me choose who will I go with. I picked my father because I know he was not the one who has broken our family. It was my mother and I hope she is happy now wherever she was. Truly, both of them made mistakes and they were also not your ideal parents but, I love them even though they are imperfect. I even tried to make our ties back together but it was already too late and as time passed by, I learn to accept that our family we will never be the same anymore. I even heard that my mother has a child now with his new husband and they are happily living in Greece. But as they say, life must go on. We can never change the past but we have to live on for our future. I am Marc by the way and so much about my life, let’s go back to our search for the lost treasure.
If I am not mistaken, it was called a Chronosphere. I am not sure it was just an old relic from the Roman civilization but my father said to me that if we find that thing, we can go back time and even control the time itself, but I am not sure if that thing truly exists though. We are working all day and night just finding that stupid thing. He always believed in the Romans Gods like it was really there. I think my father is just crazy about the Roman Gods because he always tells me stories about them when I was young and even now He even praises the Roman God of the Sky, Jupiter when we go to the mountains and even just here inland. I think my father is somehow connected to them for I remember way back 5 years ago at dawn when I was finding something to drink, I went to a lake and saw him controlling lightning like he was in the video game or the TV show the Legend of Aang but, I didn’t open up it to my father because I think I was just hallucinating at that time.
And one day, while we were digging, my father hit something metallic. When he hit it again, something rumbled just below us and it the ground began shaking. We run as fast as we can away from the digging site. The ground opened up and I almost fell into the hole gladly, I was grabbed by my father. We arrived at the camp safely and after about five minutes, the shaking stopped. My father decided to check the digging site but I stop him not to go there yet and wait for a few minutes more just to be sure there will be no aftershocks after. Ten minutes have passed and there were no aftershocks, so my father made up his mind to go to the digging site and I accompany him just in case something bad might happen I will be there to aid him. We were astonished by what we have witnessed on the digging site. At the bottom of the site, there was an opening like a cave and my father examine it. He asked for his kit and a flashlight so I went back to the camp to get those.
As I rummage the bag of my father, I saw a picture of our family and I picked it up. I think it was when I was still in Grade 1. I was in the center between my mother and father and we were so happy at that time truly, I missed that moment. I cried a little bit but I must accept the fact this family will never go back the way it was been. I put down the picture and continued searching for the kit and the flashlight my father requested. I’ve found it and I quickly went to the site because I consumed a lot of time finding those and I am sure my father will be mad at me. When I arrived at the site, my father was napping on the left side of it. How much time it took for me to find those things and for that, I was ashamed of myself. I wake my father and he asked me why I took so long searching for those. I said to him that I took some water and food to consume when we go to the cave. And down we entered the tunnel that is lurking with darkness and we went into the unknown.
